Plenum Biotech's Prupin 400 is a 400 mg tablet formulation of rifaximin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic primarily used to treat gastrointestinal conditions such as traveler's diarrhea caused by noninvasive strains of E. coli, hepatic encephalopathy, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D). Rifaximin works by inhibiting bacterial RNA synthesis, effectively reducing the population of harmful bacteria in the gut. Due to its minimal systemic absorption, it acts mainly within the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in fewer systemic side effects.
