Palayur Mar Thoma Major Archiepiscopal Church aka Palayur Church, situated in the Thrissur district of Kerala, is a beacon of Christianity and a testament to the enduring legacy of St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. This is the first Church in India. Believed to have been established in 52 AD, this church holds immense significance as one of the seven churches (Ēḻarappaḷḷikaḷ) established by the Apostle St. Thomas. The other churches within this group are located in Cranganore, Kokkamangalam, Kottakkavu, Kollam, Niranam, and Chayal (Nilackal). Despite undergoing several refurbishments over the centuries, the original altar consecrated by St. Thomas himself has been preserved, symbolizing the continuity of faith through time.
