The Second Derivative Test is used to find the maxima and minima of a function. In differential calculus, a function f(x) can be differentiated any number of times till it gives zero. For example, f(x) = x can be differentiated twice. That is, f’(x) = 1, f”(x) = 0. This cannot be differentiated further. In the same way, we can differentiate a function twice to learn something about the equation or to decide something out of that. Generally, a curve can have a maximum value or a minimum value or both. To decide that, we need to check the function in the following ways. Let f(x) be the given curve.
